Believe it or not, I was at that Seattle show too! I think it was 1976. I befriended GG at a show in Fresno on an earlier tour and they let me backstage. I saw the show from the wings and Cousin's WAS drunk and really pissed at the sound crew, especially the monitor mixer. I was really soured on the Strawbs after that. BTW, a Mellotron is used on the new Rush album and a song on Porcupine Trees' Dead Wing is named for the instrument. Didn't the Moody Blues start it all on the "Days of" album?

I think Strawbs were faltering about that time because their ace keyboard player John Hawken just left the band, and he was replaced with two journeymen keyboard players for that leg of the Nomadness tour. Cousins would announce the next song Strawbs were going to play, and these two guys would flip through their songbooks to find the right page, and then look up to Cousins. Pretty damn funny if you ask me.

GG played 30 years ago and still rocks. They were so versatile that this only song completely contains current groups such as Dream Theater.

i'd urge anyone who recognizes how amazing minnear is here to check out what he does on clavinet on "Playing The Fool," on the tune "So Sincere" during the guitar solo: it is the epitome of minnear's importance: he invents and plays a part so utterly original it's unmistakably (like Monk) him. Not enough, he plays a different rhythmic permutation of the riff EVERY TIME, something no other keyboardist has even thought of doing, let alone master the approach as KM did.
