Description:

http://www.ted.com Economist Bjorn Lomborg makes a persuasive case for prioritizing the world's biggest problems, asking "If we had $50 billion to spend over the next four years to do good in the world, where should we spend it?" His recommendations - based on the findings of the 2004 Copenhagen Consensus - controversially place global warming at the bottom of the list (and AIDS prevention at the top). Lomborg was named one of the 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine after the publication of his controversial book, The Skeptical Environmentalist which challenged widely-held beliefs that the environment is getting worse. Now the Danish economist is taking on the world's biggest problems with his Copenhagen Consensus. (Recorded February 2005 in Monterey, CA. Duration: 17:27)

Leonardo DiCaprio global warming 'documentary' BOMBS! America losing interest in global warming: "Unfortunately, "The 11th Hour" is not going to win over any converts to the cause. It's also not going to earn what it cost to make. Luckily, DiCaprio is rich, rich, rich thanks to "Titanic" and a slew of other hits like "The Aviator," "The Departed" and "Catch Me If You Can." He won't feel a thing. My guess is that this was his last foray into the documentary world."

Wow, what a revolutionary approach to policy: utilitarianism. No wonder this guy is a star of academia, what profundity, what originality! The principle of analysis is basic in the extreme, but defensible. Two problems: first, he assumes as an unspoken premise that everyone has the same moral values. Second, he excluded proliferation of WMDs from the list of major world problems.

You do not know how right you are! The SUN is causing the the current rise in temperature we've been seeing the last decades. Man-made CO2 isn't.

feargusc: You bring up a very good point that highlights how evolution can crash and burn quite easily. An important "positive" evolution change is an organism acquiring a great desire to engage in the act of reproduction. More offspring, means greater probability of survival (all other things held equal). Of course we are now seeing the consequences of such an evolutionary step. Another important change has been the doubling of life expectancies.

Bjorn failed to account for the impact of the ever expanding communication revolution, that is made possible by the device I am typing this message on. Next time you upgrade your computer or laptop, donate the old one to a developing country. The gain would be enormous, the cost practically nothing!

Bad news: economists never have enough money. Investors come along with profitable ideas and make lots more money. The problems get bigger all because the solutions were based on the wrong premises. Find out about the AIDS fraud by watching "AIDS Inc" . Free downloads: HelpForHIV dot com

First the jack-offs of the world said Global Warming wasn't real, then they said it was but it won't be that bad. Now they say it will be bad but it's too expensive to do anything about. They are all just jack-offs through and through and all the half-wit Nazis that agree with them.

...(interestingly these didn't even appear on the lists in the video) intact for future generations to appreciate. And not just appreciate either, bearing in mind from a purely economical standpoint, nature cleans our air, water, provides us with medicines and much more for $0.00. It'll cost a lot more in the long run if we loose that service and have to generate it artificially for the 30-billion people on earth at the end of the century.

...maybe if you're lucky seeing a miserable lion in the zoo. Economists are there to ensure that this process keeps going, and keep more money in peoples pockets, regardless of the environmental implications. I know, my father was an economist. There are many sustainable and quite reasonable theoretical models for how we could stabilise everything so we can ensure a healthy and happy human population while also leaving all things not human that we haven't already ruined...
