Usually about $3000/week for a half hour sitcom. Which might last for 13 weeks. That means less than $40,000 a year. Residuals for repeats. And syndication is a godsend. I am an Oscar-nominated writer, and I have never made more than $42,000 a year. And the years around that year I made nothing. Yeah. We're rich. I rent, have a roommate, and drive a 14-year-old car. What? And give up show business? :-D

thanks for the info - yes it does seem alot, but after paying bills and for the people who have a family to provide for im sure that money runs low after a while. and what with not having confirmed work - like an artist without a commision!

I read yesterday a good example of how much one gets paid... a guy was talking about getting 65 k for a movie on which he worked from 1999 to 2003, and then again on 2007 for a polish, so although it seems like a lot, it's actually just much for five years worth of work. He said that was pretty standard payment.

does anybody know how much a writer gets paid (on average) to write for a show like... desperate housewives for example? just out of interest

Well that sucked. Is their point that if there were real writers these wouldn't suck? Some of them are kinda good, but it gets old quickly, and having sub-par actors or "celebrities" doesn't help.

it's somehow reassuring to see that Longoria can overact without even speaking... I was beginning to wonder if the dialogs were that bad...
